Best Books for Real Estate Investors

If you’re serious about starting your own real estate investment business, you’re not going to have much success going it alone. You can read all about the FortuneBuilders Mastery program elsewhere here in the blog or visit fortunebuilders.com. What I want to write about today are some KEY BOOKS that you simply must read and take action upon if you really want to achieve the level of business and personal success that befits a true business leader and entrepreneur.

If you think you don’t have time to read books or that books are a waste of time, then stop right now. This post is not for you — maybe this industry as well. This is not for part-timers or tire-kickers. This is about being a LEADER and achieving growth that you never thought possible or only dreamed of up until this point. Put away those notions and start reading up now. After all, it’s not about the books — it’s about the KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE of the authors. The same authors who have been down that path you’re considering yourself.

Let’s get right into the list!

The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

One of the first books my FortuneBuilders coaches had me read, “The E-Myth” is all about being a true entrepreneur. Instead of the cavalier use the word receives today, author Michael Gerber redefines the term in its proper context. No longer will you be doing the work of the ‘technician’. Instead, you will learn what separates successful businesses from those that run out of steam, prosperous business owners from those that get swallowed up. Most importantly, you’ll set the stage for building a real estate company the right way, one that lets you focus on the more important tasks befitting a real “entrepreneur”. If you only read one book, make sure this is it.

The Magic of Thinking Big by Dr. David Schwartz

Another great recommendation by my real estate coaches. TMOTB acts as a ‘rewiring tool’ for not just your brains, but your dreams. After all, your dreams better be one of your guiding lights if you’re going to make it big flipping houses. Don’t get fooled into thinking that these books are just a bunch of ‘rah rah’. Far from it. Inside are actual tactics for getting you to both realize and create opportunities where there were none. A definite read.

Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi

I’ll be honest — I just started this book last week but WOW. The author has already shown me new ways to build relationships and increase my network. A rags-to-riches success story, Ferrazzi gives clear demonstrations on why some people have a loser’s mentality and are doomed to failure while others know how to manage social dynamics and rise beyond their means. I’m really looking forward to finishing “Never Eat Alone” within the week.

The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss

What can be said about Tim Ferriss’ game-changing book that hasn’t already been said before? “The Four Hour Workweek” is a total 180-degree turnaround of how to live. Pioneering “lifestyle design” as a core concept, Ferriss explains step by step how he built an empire without using up that greatest of all resources — TIME. Even better, he shows you how to do it. For those of us who flip houses, learning how to leverage the resources, expertise and time of others is CRITICAL to achieving the level of business success we all ultimately want.

Leadership Secrets of Atilla the Hun by Wess Roberts

More passages than prose, this book is all about becoming a LEADER. Face it — if you’re going to be a real estate entrepreneur, you better learn how to LEAD. Lead yourself, lead others — cultivating your inner leader in both good times and bad is a rare but necessary trait. A short book you can finish on a sunny afternoon, but a valuable one nonetheless. Get some knowledge from the leader of Huns.

I highly suggest for all of these books having a yellow highlighter and red pen with you. Don’t have an epiphany leap off the page yet only to be forgotten the next day. This isn’t about checking a book off your list — it’s about learning key concepts to ACT UPON!
